Community Resources
We all have needs, and none of us can do it all alone. While we strive to support one another within our UUCC community, there are also many non-profits, government programs, and other faith communities providing crucial services in our area. Below is a list of resources we are aware of.
General Assistance
Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency (UCHRA)
The Care Center at Steven’s Street Baptist Church (assists with clothing and food)
Helping Hands of Putnam County (provides emergency services such as food, utilities, medical expenses, rent and gas vouchers to doctor appointments)
The Cookeville Human Fund (can help in a variety of situations if you are in dire need)
Genesis House (Provides temporary shelter, food, clothing, baby items, household items and hygiene items along with counseling and court services. They support both men and women)
The Upper Cumberland Development District
Energy Assistance
TN Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Transportation Assistance
Shelter, Public Housing, Rental, and Home Ownership Assistance:
Cookeville Rescue Mission (also provides assistance with food and clothing)
Highlands Residential Services
Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
Tennessee Housing Deveopment Agency
Food Assistance
Having SNAP benefits opens up other avenues for assistance such as reduced rates for Charter/Spectrum services, reduced Amazon Prime Membership, a free cell phone and service through Assurance Wireless and Safelink.
